The Kingdom is Like, is an artist book that plays with poetry and typography. As an artist, I sought to begin a discussion on life and faith as a Christian. Christianity is an important part of my life and affects my actions every day. Because it is such as large part of my life, I wanted to produce art to reflect my experience of religion and also act as a disciple of Christ through devoted artistic expression in much the same as monks of old.

I used the parables spoken by Jesus on earth that are recorded in the Bible, specifically the words of the apostles Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The parables of Jesus often start similarly as He describes Christianity and the kingdom it encompasses.

Parables were a way teachers taught during this time; they act as interesting stories but also serve as teaching tools if the listener digs deeper. The kerning, spacing, and layout of the text follows the poetry of the words. Taking the ideologies and imagery from the parables described by these authors, the parables are distilled it to its barest essence.
