Emily Van Lingen is an Honours Bachelor of Arts (2016) graduate of the University of Toronto with a double major in Art & Art History and Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (CCIT). Upon graduating, she also received a diploma from Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Design. Her university career has enhanced her knowledge of and love for art and technology in both digital and fine art forms.

Emily is an artist as well as a video game designer and programmer. She is currently working with HB Studios in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia as a game designer on their PC and console titles. Previously, she worked with the Red Meat Games team in Halifax, Nova Scotia as a game designer and programmer. She contributed to the Red Meat Games team from 2016 to 2021 in their Virtual Reality, PC, console and mobile projects providing practical knowledge of game theory, concepts and design. Since joining the games industry, she has gained advanced knowledge in game design, level design, the Unity Engine and C# programming language. In 2019, Emily attended F2P Campus for 3 months where the accelerator enhanced her knowledge of the free-to-play business model for future projects. Sentience (2021), a multiplayer hide and seek PC and console title, was Emily's original concept and she worked on the project throughout its development cycle.

Emily has also worked for Blot Interactive, a video game company in Cambridge Ontario. She provided game design, level design and programming expertise for their game projects within the Unity Engine. In addition, she attended conferences, Gamescom 2017 (Germany) and Game Developers Conference 2017 (San Francisco), to promote upcoming game titles, meet potential publishers, and become acquainted with other game developers in the industry. She has also assisted in securing Canada Media Fund and Ontario Creates funding for Blot Interactive by writing about and designing innovative game concepts. Most notably, she developed, designed, programmed and promoted Oh No! Ninjas!, a mobile and PC word typing game.

Emily is interested in making inclusive and innovative video game titles. In her spare time, she enjoys learning to play the ukulele and playing video games. Her favourite games include Last of Us and Horizon Zero DawnEmily looks forward to passionately contributing the female perspective to the video game industry.
